Oppose Local Authority Legislation in Colorado

Colorado State Senator Kyle Mullica and Representatives Kyle Brown and Elizabeth Velasco have introduced Senate Bill 24-022, which would allow county boards of commissioners to establish stricter tobacco control ordinances and regulations than those imposed by the state.

Regulations allowed under this bill include actually banning the sale of perfectly legal tobacco products! In addition, SB 24-022 allows local governments to establish new regulations on distribution, and even allows them to “limit smoking,” meaning allowing them to ban smoking in your local cigar shop.

These are just a few of the steps localities could take against the sale and enjoyment of legal tobacco products. Colorado does not need a patchwork of contradictory local laws that will only breed confusion for business owners and patrons alike. If anything, premium cigar shops, lounges, and clubs, should be exempt from any such legislation! Contact your legislators today!
