Oppose Premium Cigar Tax Hike in Kansas

The Kansas House of Representatives Committee on Taxation has introduced H.B. 2428 which would raise the level of taxation on all tobacco products, and specifically would raise the OTP (Other Tobacco Products) tax on premium cigars, from 10% to 55% of the wholesale price. The stated rational for this action is to create a state smoking cessation fund, and to compensate for an adjustment in the tax level on food and food ingredients. Now is not the time to raise taxes of any kind, given the economic affects of the national pandemic. Please send the message below to your legislators, today!
